Did you know that the first 'Jack-O-Lantern' was made from a turnip and that the practice of carving it originated from an Irish myth? Learn more about 'Stingy Jack' and the Devil at http://www.history.com/topics/jack-olantern-history
Last Tuesday, SGC members rolled up their collective sleeves and dug right into the center of the orange orbs, otherwise known as pumpkins, to carve out their individual interpretation of the face of a Jack-O-Lantern. The meeting was a fun and lively class conducted by Dale Coulter and Ann McDevitt. Each person attending brought their own pumpkin, tools and fresh or dried plants and grasses to make a carved pumpkin topped off with an arrangement. Dale brought all kinds of carving implements and showed the effects of using different kinds of lights.
Delicious and varied refreshments were baked and created by Liz Bradley and Maria Klimkiewicz. Oh, yum, what a spread!
Everyone had an enjoyable evening making their own unique pumpkin display. There was lots of laughter, especially when Liz got out the hammer and electric drill!
