2008 Artful Garden Tour a Success!!
Saturday, June 21st was glorious, with brilliant sunshine, low humidity and not a cloud in the sky! A perfect day for a garden tour! Over 200 visitors made their way through the winding, country roads in Sutton to visit the nine gardens on the tour and watch talented artists and artisans at work. Each garden location had at least one artist on site including several from Sutton and surrounding towns: Sue Dion,Leah Guerin, Bob Graves,Joy Nydham, Randy Quinn and students from the Sutton High School Art Program. There was also a surprise visit from several members of the Rockport Artists Guild. Thank you, Linda Sinacola for inviting Barbara Lussier, Robert Duffy, Robert Aiello, Mike Graves and T.A.Charron to be 'artists in the garden' for the tour.
If you didn't take advantage of the box lunch provided by Mary Whittier, you really missed out! It was absolutely delicious, especially the bag of homemade cookies-yummy!
The Gardener's Boutique, housed under a 20' x 20' tent, provided visitors with the opportunity to shop for such varied items as garden gloves, hand cream, stepping stones, paintings ,pottery and ,yes, even shoes- garden clogs with colorful prints offered by 'Basia's on Burbank'! The raffle baskets, assembled by garden club member Barbara Daigneault, with donations of books and gardening items from SGC members, were a big hit with garden visitors. The winners were thrilled with their prize of gardening goodies!
The Artful Garden Tour ended with a Wine & Cheese Party - a 'thank you' from the Sutton Garden Club to the garden owners and artists. Wonderful appetizers were provided by garden club members and supplemented by purchases made by Ann Achorn, co-chair of the event. Ann also made her famous 'tortilla tucks'- my favorite! Easils were set up on the lawn to display the paintings created by some of the 'artists in the garden'. It was amazing to see the beautiful paintings these talented artists created in just a few hours.
Several members and friends have sent me pictures from the tour. Check them out at the Flickr site, Artful Garden Tour, and in the right hand column. If you have any pictures from the tour you would like to share, send them to karibeaton@charter.net.
